Fast Forward

Well, once again time flies forward, March into September, and soon October. Can't afford to post much this time with exams coming, but would love to finish the stories.

Perhaps one of the things that has got me thinking over these few months would be love. It starts with wondering what it is, and then realising the world severly lacks it. Think about it, if someone says "I love you", what is it about "you" that he/she loves? And of course, is it even possible for us to love a person?

When asked "why do you love me?", people may often have answers like you're beautiful, intelligent, etc. In other words, wouldn't this imply that they love certain traits about "you", and not exactly "you" as a whole? We have to admit that nobody is perfect, and that we are bound to have flaws here and there. In a modern context, I believe it would be quite rare to find a person who really means it when he/she says, "I love you because you're ugly" or something like that. For us, we have usually designated certain traits as desirable or undesirable, and likewise, have associated love with desirable. So how do we explain the undesirable traits. Well, obviously our kind of love would place more empahsis on the positive traits, basically "looking on the bright side". Humans are great at self-deception, treat the negatives as non-existent and they won't impact you severely. Like real, they'll eventually surface, and the inability to handle usually leads to breakups/divorces. To put things simply, we will never love a person because he/she is a person, only because they have some trait we find desirable in them, just like how a company values employees who make big contributions while not so useful people get retrenched.

So we can safely conclude that our kind of love at best is still superficial, but of course, there is a being who has far surpassed that low standard. Those who have accepted Him as Lord and Saviour will understand what I mean. To love those who have only returned the favour with scorn and mockery, even the murder of His son, is truly amazing. If He was like me(which thankfully he isn't), you wouldn't exist to read about this. He is the only one capable of loving anybody for who they are, and wishes all to accept His love so that we may never have to search endlessly for "love". Let's face it, we all need love and companionship, and He is the best source of both. Loving yourself means nothing. After all, you have no love in you to start with, so how can you pour love into yourself. How can nothing fill nothing and get something out of it?

I'll admit I desire His kind of love, the kind of love I can't find in this world. Here I'm only valued if I can get good results, make contributions etc. I feel that my brothers and sisters are close to loving me the way He does, and of course He has loved me that way even before my creation.
